The fulfilment of working for a wonderful cause

At Diss and at Bedford we are counting down to Copenhagen - and we’re doing it in great company.

It is, in truth, relatively rare for us to be rubbing shoulders with the great and the good. Therefore it is doubly gratifying to be doing it for an outstandingly good cause.

Earlier this year The Ark-H Group was selected by the Global Humanitarian Forum to be their fulfilment partner for the now well publicised tck, tck, tck campaign.

Tck Tck Tck (Countdown to Copenhagen) is the campaign launched to focus attention on the forthcoming Copenhagen Conference. At this important conference in December the United Nations will discuss the environment and climate change and decide on a replacement agreement for the Kyoto protocol - a defining agreement that will determine the future of our planet in the face of the climate crisis.

At the time of pitching for the business we were inspired by the campaign ideals. As Sales Manager Julia Pockett says, “We were particularly keen to win the project, not only because it’s a great concept and campaign but also because of what it says about our ‘green credentials’”.

The Global Humanitarian Forum was launched by former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Laureate Kofi Annan in October 2007. It is a not for profit organisation, based in Geneva, the mission of which is to foster dialogue and broker partnerships that strengthen the international community’s ability to address more effectively current and emerging humanitarian challenges.

The specific aims of the campaign for Climate Justice are to ensure that people everywhere are safe from danger and free from suffering due to climate change. Those most vulnerable to climate change today are the world’s poorest groups, since they lack the resources and means to cope with its impacts. This means the developed world taking greater responsibility for their actions and the pollution they have, and are, creating by ensuring poorer and less developed nations are not left to bear the brunt of the problems. However, ultimately people everywhere are vulnerable to climate change and the effects that it has on our environment both locally and globally.

The tck tck tck Time for Climate Justice campaign has been launched to bring awareness to the world of both the upcoming conference and the importance of acting now to protect the global environment for our children.

With those kinds of credentials it is no surprise that people such as Bob Geldof are hurrying to endorse the campaign. David Jones of Havas was clear that the marketing and advertising industry has a key role to play. In a recent interview on the subject he said “What we do is change people’s behaviour. As an industry we specialize in it. We understand consumers; understand how to change their minds. Usually, we do it to launch a new product or get someone to buy one product or another. We can equally do it to address some of the bigger issues - poverty, hunger and the critical one of climate change.”

The messages from the Cannes launch were completely unified. We all have a responsibility to do something about global warming. Many large organisations such as EDF Energy and HSBC have already committed to using the tck tck tck logo on their materials. So too have the major charities like Greenpeace and Oxfam.

We are proud to be the distributors of the merchandise range designed to provide a symbol of support for the campaign. Through the campaign website supporters access an on-line shopping environment where they place their order for the merchandise they would like.

Once payment has been taken, a sales order is generated and passed through to us to receive, pick, pack and despatch to a global market from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. With the largest potential market for any campaign we have ever undertaken, the challenges arising to ensure that efficient and effective fulfilment operations were substantial. However, with concerted effort and close collaboration with both the client and our dedicated suppliers, these were overcome.

We’d love you to join the fight for climate justice. See details inside this newsletter on how you can become part of the biggest human clock ever!

We are already sending items out across the world and we’d love you to join the fight for climate justice. Upload a video of yourself saying ‘tck’ on timeforclimatejustice.org to become part of the biggest human clock ever that is ticking down the seconds left until Copenhagen in December.

If you would like to order merchandise in support of the campaign just click on the website and place your order. We’ll do the rest. Alternatively, if you would find it less hassle, just ask your account manager at Diss or Bedford to sort it out for you. We’ll be happy to help.
